SEAL 1 CLP Plus Liquid 2oz Bottle

SEAL 1 CLP Plus Review: Is It the Best Gun Lubricant for Duty and EDC?

There are dozens of gun cleaners and lubricants on the market. Most are fine. A few are genuinely excellent. SEAL 1 CLP Plus consistently ends up in the excellent category — and it's what we carry at V Development Group because it's what we actually use.

Here's an honest look at what it does, how it performs, and who it's right for.

What Is SEAL 1 CLP Plus?

CLP stands for Cleaner, Lubricant, and Protectant — three functions in one product. SEAL 1 CLP Plus is a synthetic formula developed with military and law enforcement use in mind. It's not snake oil with a tactical name — it was developed by people who actually shoot guns in real conditions.

It's available in two forms:

  • Liquid — easier to apply to small parts, bore patches, and hard-to-reach areas. Available in 1oz, 2oz, and 4oz bottles.
  • Paste — stays where you put it. Better for rails, locking surfaces, and any application where you need lubrication to last longer without migrating. Available in a 4oz jar.

Performance: What It Actually Does Well

Cleaning

SEAL 1 breaks down carbon fouling, copper residue, and lead deposits effectively. It doesn't require aggressive scrubbing — apply it, let it dwell for a few minutes, and wipe. On a duty gun that sees high round counts, you'll notice it pulls fouling out of the barrel and action with less effort than most petroleum-based CLPs.

Lubrication

The liquid formula penetrates into metal pores for a molecular-level lubricating layer. In practical terms, this means your action runs smoother longer between applications. For EDC guns that get minimal cleaning between use, this is meaningful — you're not relying on a surface coating that wipes off after a few hundred rounds.

The paste formula is where SEAL 1 really differentiates itself. Apply it to your pistol's frame rails, barrel hood, and locking surfaces and it will outlast any liquid lubricant in the same locations. For a gun that lives in a holster 16 hours a day, paste on the rails is a significant reliability improvement.

Protection

SEAL 1 displaces moisture and creates a barrier against corrosion. For guns stored in a humid environment, holstered against the body (which is constantly sweating on your gun), or kept in a vehicle where temperature swings cause condensation, this protection layer matters. It's not magic — don't store your guns in standing water — but it meaningfully extends the time between cleaning cycles while protecting your investment.

Who It's For

  • Concealed carriers who want one product that cleans, lubes, and protects during a quick maintenance session
  • Law enforcement who need reliable lubrication through high round counts and holster draw cycles
  • Collectors and enthusiasts who want to protect valuable firearms from corrosion during storage
  • Anyone who wants to stop buying three separate products for three tasks

The Verdict

SEAL 1 CLP Plus does what it claims. It cleans effectively, lubricates durably, and protects against corrosion — all in a formula that isn't toxic to breathe and doesn't destroy your gun's finish. The paste variant is genuinely excellent for rail lubrication on carry guns.

We wouldn't stock it if we didn't use it ourselves. Start with the 2oz liquid if you want to try it, or go straight to the 4oz bottle if you maintain multiple firearms. The 4oz paste jar is the best value if you're primarily using it for rail and locking surface lubrication.
